College artwork 2008-2009

Thought I'd start off the blog with a couple of pieces I did when I attended Ringling College of Art + Design. I really loved it there, but couldn't continue due to finances. I was majoring in Computer Animation and only completed my freshmen year (with A's and B's btw). Most of these pieces, like the one above, I did in my drawing class. The figure drawings are for figure class and the doll is 3D design. Enjoy.

Invented architecture homework

Invented tree assignment. We had to draw branches going in every direction. My teacher really liked it and explained to us how it took our eyes in a continuous circle starting from the trunk up and then clockwise. I didn't realize that and it made a lot of sense. I got trapped in the loop staring lol. But I generally like to feel out my work without really thinking much.

In contrast to the previous piece, this one was completely based on real life observation. The two are fairly big drawings probably about 18x24 (roughly comparing it to a Biggie newsprint pad). This project was line only and while it came out good, I was attempting to get looking up perspective that I did not achieve. :( Still suck at it.

A starfruit from behind my dorm. One of my lazier assignments.

This piece makes me so happy and upset. It was a mass study with charcoal. No lines just form. I did really good and everyone loved it until they all told me they thought it was a hedge :| grass and mulch look like the hedge they say. My teacher was included in this group. Its all cuz the stupid sod was high above the sidewalk leaving this dark back soil and roots in between it and the grass. Things drawn dark are never looked upon well as people tend to think they contradict the truth (in this case it didn't/should have used artistic discretion).

Esther Love. My dorm mate. Figure study homework. I'm being lazy using mechanical, but it looks just like her :)

20 min final drawing for Figure class. Compressed charcoal. This was one of my better pieces in the class.

My doll :) Elenndie - Toy project. Lots of fun and spent tons of time on it. About 3 1/2 weeks (including weekends).

So there's a few stuff I did in college. I have a bit more but I'd need to dig it out. I have compressed years of artwork into two portfolios so it's gonna be fun :s On top of that I have a couple other categories of work I can load: More college work, AP Portfolio, Caricatures, Anime/Digital work, Recent traditional, etc etc. I need to find my connectors for my external hard drive so I can access digital work I have on there such as my animations. Hope you enjoy :) Might need to start watermarking my stuff but I'm too lazy atm... shoot
